Much like a
supermarket, your Shopping Cart was designed to operate classifying your
products in Categories. Creating an organized online store is one
of the most important steps, this way your customers can easily browse and
find what they want. The less time spent looking for a product, the better
chances of selling it and having the customer return. Then, to produce an
environment that is easily understood to your visitors, simplicity is key. Category:
A
group or set of things, people, or actions that are classified together because of common characteristics. Every
Category denotes a different kind of product. Let us take this into
context. If your store is a electronics store, you may have Category
Televisions, Category Radios, Category Telephones. If your store sells music,
you may have Category Rock, Category Jazz, Category R&B. Each of these
instances, denotes units put together because they have something in
common. For example, Telephone and Answering Machine Telephone are similar
because they both are electronics and both are telephones. A
category can be further divided into sub-categories and
sub-sub-categories. For example, the category Telephone can be sub divided
into Sub Category Answering Machine and Sub Category Cordless. Under
Answering Machine we can have yet, another sub-sub category Digital
and Cordless. Visualize it this way:

To get a better
idea do this: In a piece of paper write down your products and organize
them in a similar way as the example you see above. Make a different list
for every product category on your store. (In this case, one category for
Televisions, one category for Radios and one category for Telephones.) All
products must follow a structure similar to the example.
