How do I make sure I don't lose any emails during transfer?
If you setup email service on new server before changing DNS you'll not lose any emails. Please make sure you do not cancel your old email service until you know the new email service is working, you should not lose any emails. We recommend you wait a few weeks after the transfer, so that you can still retrieve email from the old provider.

Let's say you want to transfer mydomain.com from another server to webhost4life.com and you are currently using a program like Outlook Express as your mail client. Your current mail server is mail.mydomain.com.

From Windows click start, run, enter cmd, and click ok to open a dos window. Ping mail.mydomain.com and write down the reply IP address.

Proceed with the transfer as you have already explained.

Once the transfer has completed, entering mail.mydomain.com as a server in Outlook Express will loate your mail on the Webhost4life server. Entering the domain address of the old mail server in Outlook Express will locate any mail that has come into your old server. (You may even create a second mail account for this.)

While you are looking at mail in your old server you can forward them to yourself and they will show up on your new server.
