What does the FTP Manger do?

The FTP manager allows you to create multiple FTP accounts on your site. Once an FTP login account is setup, you can start uploading files with your FTP software. This is ideal when you have more than one user needing to upload or download files. You can also reset the existing FTP users' home directory, permissions and passwords in this section.

NOTE: The FTP Manager lets you create accounts but you have to use FTP software to access such accounts and upload files.

The following are the steps for Creating, Deleting and Modifying FTP accounts:

Creating FTP Accounts:

1. FTP UserID: Enter the new account name
2. Password: Enter a corresponding password

Note: For security purposes, all FTP accounts created will carry your loginID in front of the account name. For example, if your ID is 'mark55' and you add account called 'customer' your ftp login ID will be 'mark55customer'.

3. Directory: Specify the starting path for the account

Note: This is useful when you are creating multiple accounts and wish to restrict access to your root folder or top level folders for some users. For example:

If your root folder is c:\website and have a sub folder called apples, you can grant access to the path c:\website\apples if you specify the apples folder in the field. A user with this mapped path cannot access your root folder c:\website

If you do not want to create an account with restricted access, do not specify anything in this field. The FTP account will have access to your root.

4. Directory Access: Enter permissions for the new FTP account

R=Read	Grants permission to view the contents of a file.
W=Write	Grants permission to make changes to files and folders (and can write to file even if Read permissions are not included).
A=Append	Grants permission to append to a file. (Adding contents of one file to another without opening either one.)
M=Delete	Grants permission to delete files and folders.
L=List	Grants permission to see the content in folders. If turned off, users can still upload but cannot see what files are in the folder.
C=Make	Grants permission to create folders.
D=Remove	Grants permission to erase folders.
P=Inherit	System use only. Do not omit this key.

5. Click "Add FTP Account" and confirm addition.

Deleting FTP Accounts:

1. Current FTP Users: select the account and click the red button
2. Confirm deletion and continue

Changing FTP Password, Path, Permissions:

Select the FTP account to modify and click on "EDIT", You will get a screen

1. Password: Change account's password
2. Directory : (Path) Enter home directory. The FTP account will login at the folder that you specify in this field. If you do not want to change the path, Leave this as-is
3. Directory Access: (Permissions) Refer to chart in Creating FTP Accounts section
4. Click "Modify FTP Account" and confirm

Edit IP Access:

Select the FTP account to modify and click on "IP ACCESS", You will get a screen

1. Please check your IP address in the red sentence.
2. Type the IP address which you want to grant access.
3. Click "Add IP Address" to enable IP access rule and grant the IP access right.
4. Delete the IP Address which you do not want to allow access.

You can add IP address that explicitly allows to access your FTP account. Once you added this, any incoming ftp connection from all other IP addresses will be denied. We strongly recommend users who demand high security and with static IP address from home and office to configure this option.

Empty the list in order to allow all IP to access.

Import subscriber to Mailing List Manager in Control Panel

To import contact to our Mailing List Manager in Control Panel, please follow the steps listed below:

i) you would need to export the contact information into a "Comma Separated Value (.csv) file in order to import it later (For the steps to export the contact information from Outlook, please click here)
ii) Open the .csv file with text editor or spreadsheet editor to prepare the data. Make sure the contents of the .csv should be similar as below:

John, Smiths, jsmiths@webhost4life.com
Bob, Lewis, bliewis@yahoo.com
Jason, Will, jasonw@hotmail.com

You may need to discard details other then First name, Last name and email address.

iii) Login Hosting Control Panel
iv) Click "Mail" at top navigation bar -> "Mail List Manager" at left navigation bar
v) Click "Manage Subscribers" beside the list that you would like to import the contacts
vi) Click "Import Subscribers" at the top of Main screen
vii) Copy all the contents on .csv file and paste them in the textbox
viii) Click "Import Now" button

Why do I get "Firewall Alert" message?

We have implemented a new securitysetting to prevent hotlinking contents from other sites and tightenyour entire site security.

"Hotlinking" is direct linking to a website's files (images, video, etc.). An example would be using an imgtag to display a JPEG image you found on someone else's web page so itwill appear on your own site, eBay auction listing, weblog, forummessage post, etc.

Let's say if someone hotlinks your content with the link http://yourdomain.com/xxxin another domain and the firewall alert will get this alert. At thesame time, if you have one site make uses contents directly linked fromother site which owned by yourself from our server, you will also getthis alert as well.

The security setting will also block HTTP headers with strange characters. If your site is password protected and the password is too simple (e.g. "password"), it will be blocked, too.

To change the setting, you may login your Hosting control panel -> Security -> Security Guard, to do so.

How do I use the File Manager?

Let's get started by clicking on "File Manager" in the left panel (Control Panel > Site Admin).

1. Displaying folders and files

The File Manager will shows in a new pop up window so please make sure you enable pop up window feature in your browser.
At the first loading it takes some time for File Manager to generate a structure view for you.
Your member folder will be displayed in a "folded tree" view. It is pretty convenient for you to browse the content of an upper
level folder by simply clicking on its name.
Its subfolders will then be displayed in the left panel under the parent folder and its files will be listed in the right panel.
The following screenshot shows what File Manager panel looks like:

2. Management of folders and files

By right clicking a folder a menu pops up through which you can perform the following actions:
1. create new subfolder
2. create new file
3. set permission
4. rename folder
5. copy folder
6. delete folder
7. zip folder

By right clicking a file a menu pops up through which you can perform the following actions:
1. edit file
2. download file
3. set permission
4. rename file
5. copy file
6. delete file
7. zip file

Please notice that there are 2 different editors when creating a new file or editing an existing file:
"Editor" and "HTML Editor". The first one is a normal plain text editor while the second one is a rich text format editor. The "HTML Editor" is convenient for editing HTML files because it contains a series of text formatting tools such as font editor, align control, hyperlink and anchor editor. It can show a html file in the
same appearance as it displays in a browser.
But if you are going to create or edit a program source file or xml file the "HTML Editor" may not be suitable because it may mis-recognize and filter out some tags of the file and does not display the file content properly. So please use plain text "Editor" for files other than html.

3. Uploading files to server

On top of the folder tree there is an "Upload" text button with a small green arrow. By clicking it you can upload files to server via secure protocol of "Web SFTP". Please notice that for this function to work you need to set the password of your main ftp account to be the same as your control panel password. You may reset ftp password at control panel -> security -> ftp manager.
The "Upload" component is based on Java Applet so it requires Java Runtime Environment to be installed on your local machine.

As an alternative, we provide "classic" upload method which you can upload files via normal http protocol. In case that FTP connection is blocked in your local network environment. You can choose the classic method by clicking the "Classic" tab.

4. Set file/folder permission

For Windows hosting :

IUSR_MemberID = Internet browser users (web visitors)
INTERACTIVE = Internal computer use only
NETWORK = Internal computer use only
Administrator = Used by technical support only
SYSTEM = For the computer itself to manipulate your files
Network Service = Asp.net user (used for asp.net application)

For Linux hosting

You can set the file permission by permission number (755, 777, 644, etc) or click the check box.

1.) Login the web base control panel:
    a.) You can manage your hosting account / website via the web base control panel interface:

2.) My hosting account information:
    a.) You can get your hosting account information from control panel:

        - Temp URL
            this usually named as sitexxx.mysite4now.net/memberID
        - Web Server address

            this is the path setting where your member root folder located on server side

3.) Member root folder/path:
    a.) Each hosting account has its own member root folder, your web contents/files are stored under this folder/path.

    b.) Member root folder/path information are displayed within “Account Summary”:
        - Control Panel -> Account [Top Navigation Bar] -> Account Summary [Left Sub Menus]
        - For example, Base Directory: d:\hosting\member\demouser

4.) Member root folder and Sub folder
    a.) For better site content management and security, we suggest members upload/manage their site contents with sub folder architecture.

    b.) Instead of upload all site contents to member root folder. Contents for individual site are suggested to be placed within separated sub folder.
        - For example,
            - d:\hosting\member\demouser\site1  <- site contents of 1st_domain.com will upload into this sub folder
            - d:\hosting\member\demouser\site2  <- site contents of 2nd_domain.com will upload into this sub folder
            - d:\hosting\member\demouser\site3 <- site contents of 3rd_domain.com will upload into this sub folder

5.) Upload site contents (FTP and other uploading tools):
      You can upload site contents to your hosting storage via 3 different tools:

    a.) Traditional FTP with FTP client programs:
        - Each hosting account has a default FTP account to web server storage.
        - The default FTP account's FTP is pointing to the member root folder. You can establish FTP connection with:
            - Web Server address: sitexxx.mysite4now.net (refer to "Account Summary")
            - Default FTP login: [your member ID]
            - Default FTP password: [your control panel password]

6.) Testing my site via temp URL:
    a.) Each hosting account associated with a temp URL, for example, sitexxx.mysite4now.net/demouser (from "Account Summary")

    c.) Temp URL constructed as : web_server_address/member_ID/folder_path/file_name
        - For example,
            - your temp URL path is site999.mysite4now.net/demouser
            - you have sub folder named “website” under your member root folder
            - there is a file named “hello.html” within “website” folder
            - you can access the file via temp URL as:
            - http://site999.mysite4now.net/demouser/website/hello.html

7.) Register your own domain name
    a.) To host your web site with your own domain name. You need to register the domain name with a domain name provider(8c).

    b.) If you already have registered domain name, you can skip this section.

    c.) If you need to purchase/register your own domain name, you can register the domain name via comtrol panel:
        - Control Panel -> Domains [Top Navigation Bar] -> Buy Domain Name! [Left Sub Menus]

    d.) If you purchased/registered the domain name from us, you can manage the registered domain via control panel:

       You need to host the domain name into our system via control panel.

8.) Hosting your own domain name
    a.) Hosting a domain name to our system via control panel:

        - For example,
            - Domain Name: http://www.[mydomain.com   ] <- enter your registered domain name
            - Map To: d:\hosting\member\demouser\[website   ] <- map the domain root folder path to existing folder

9.) Manage your Domain to point to web server
    a.) If you purchased/registered your domain name from us,
        - the domain name server(DNS) setting should have been pointed to our name servers.
        - Furthermore, you can manage domain name server setting via control panel:
            - Control Panel -> Domains [Top Navigation Bar] -> Domain Manager [Left Sub Menus]

    b.) If you purchased/registered your domain name from other Domain Name Provider/Registrar
        - please login domain name provider's management panel
        - update your registered domain name server setting to point to our name servers pair

        * please remember to remove the existing remote name servers and add our name server pairs only,
          otherwise the domain query may handled with remote name server and resolve to incorrect IP address

    c.) Each hosted domain within our system will be handled with our name server pair:
        - Control Panel -> DNS [Top Navigation Bar] -> Zone Editor [Left Sub Menus] -> Select Domain and [Edit Zone]
        - The name server pair information can find under “DNS group:”
        - If you do intend not to use our DNS, 10b and 10c can be ignored.

    d.) Common issues with Domain name management:
        - My Domain does not work!

10.) Browse the site with your domain name
    a.) Normally, after DNS propagation, you should able to browse to your site with the domain name.

    b.) Common issue: My domain does not show up?
        - You can check with follow tips:

            - Have I uploaded my site contents to the correct web server
                - Check with FTP or File Manager within the control panel

            - Have I hosted the domain into the system yet
                - Refer to section 8.) Hosting your own domain name

            - Does the domain map to the correct folder/path
                - Check with control panel if the domain entry point to correct folder:
                - Control Panel -> Site Admin [Top Navigation Bar] -> Change Path [Left Sub Menus]
                - If the domain mapped to incorrect domain root folder, you can update the domain root folder path via this function

            - Is the domain handled with correct name servers / resolve to the correct web server
                - Check with web base DNS report tool, for example,http://www.dnscolos.com/free-dns-report.html
                - Try ping test to the domain name

File Permission Tutorial

File Permissions should be used only if you wish to protect files orfolders from web browser users. If this is not your intent, you do notneed to make any modifications to your files. By default, yoursensitive folders and files (such as database files) are alreadyprotected from unwanted direct downloads. Malicious users will not beable to steal your information.

To Password-Protect files and folders, please go to control panel -> Site Admin -> Set PWD Protect.

Note: Take note that password-protecting files and folders will have NO effect on FTP user accounts.

CurrentDirectory

Use this control to switch among your directories. The Current Directory shows the physical path where the Change Directory Permission and Change File Permission commands are able to take effect.

To switch to a directory select it and click on This will show you any folders and files within that directory. You can see these under File Permission. To back out of a sub folder simply clickback on your web browser. This way you can navigate anywhere in yoursite.

ChangingDirectory/File Permissions

When you wish to to restrict access to files or folders, navigate to your desired folder or file and click on the Edit Permissionbutton . The top of your page will show your path in blue. Take noticeof this to make sure you are in the right location before you make anychanges. The second section will show you the particular rights thatare granted to up to 5 kinds of different users to the folder or filethat you selected.

Before you read any further: Most of the time you will be working with IUSR_and your member ID permissions. Do not make any changes to the rest of the users if youare not sure what the full effects of making changes will be.

IUSR_ = Internet browser users (web visitors)

1. Select the user you wish to modify from the pulldown menu
2. Select one or more rights ( Press Ctrl to do multiple selections.)
3. If you want the subdirectories within the directory where you are making changes
mark the checkbox.
4. Click on Make Changes

RemovingUsers

To remove/add an user:

Go to control panel -> Security > Site User Manager

NOTE:
1. Take note not to Deny Full Permissions to everyone. If this happens, NO ONE (including us) will be able to retrieve your information. Essentially, your information will be lost forever.
2. Make sure you plan carefully when granting Full Permissions. You may inadvertently change permissions so that any web user could download your sensitive information.

How to backup the files in my account?

You can always use FTP client or our Web SFTP Tools to connect to your account and download your files.
If you want to zip your sub-folder, you can follow the instructions below.

(1) Login to your control panel. Click on tab "Site Admin".
(2) click "File Manager"
(3) Right Click any subfolder, and choose "Add to zip" and input the file name.
(4) Wait until the zip operation finished. The backup file locates inside the sub-folder that you zipped.
(5) Right click the backup file and choose download.

Please note that you can backup one sub-folder each time. If you want to backup your whole account, please contact our support.

You can add/delete your domain to hosting account via Hosting Control Panel -> Domains -> Domain name.

There are four actions in this section:

Add a New Site: This action will let you add a new domain to point to a subfolder. It will create a new IIS entry in server, which can serve for a different site with the primary domain.

Domain Name: The registered domain name you would like to add to your hosting account.

Map To: The desired path in the server you would point the registered domain name to.

.Net Version: The asp.net version you would like your site to run with.

Note: Additional fee may apply depends on your plan and we will also offer you free email service on the domain you added.

Add a Domain to Existing Website: This section allows you to point a new domain name to another website that you've hosted with us. (The primary domain or the domains added in “Add a New Site” will be listed in this section). Click [Add to This Site] button to add the domain to the existing site. It will not create a new IIS entry in server but add a domain’s host headers to the same IIS entry served for existing website.
1) Click "Go" beside the destination domain name that you would like to point to

Add Email Service to Domain: In this section, control panel will list out Domain names without Email Services and Domain names with Email Services Already under your account. You can click (Add Email Service) button to enable email service on that domain

Open an account with us and then follow these steps:

1.Upload a copy of your website to our servers. You will receive atemporary URL with your account that you can use to make sure yourpages are working properly.

2. Add your Domain to your account. Go to your Control Panel -> Domains -> Domain Name -> click on the Add a New Site button and add your domain name.

3. Create or re-create your e-mail accounts in our mail servers.

Important: Take step 4 only when you are positive that your site is ready.

4. Access your domain name registrar* and change your DNS information.

Your DNS information can be found on the first page of your control panel after you login.

*Your domain name registrar is the place where you purchased your domain name.

5. Cancel service with your old provider. (Applies only if your web site is hosted by another provider.)

1. Purchase or register a domain
If you already own a domain you can skip this part.
Otherwise, please do the following steps :
a. Login to Hosting Control Panel
b. Click "Domains" on top navigation bar
c. Click "Buy New Domain!" on left navigation bar
d. Type in the domain name which you would like to buy on the yellow section and choose the top-level domain name (e.g. co.uk , com)
e. Check the domain name and click "Add to Cart"
f. If another domain you would like to purchase, you can press "Update Cart". Otherwise , you can press "Check Out"
h. Fill in all the information about the domain
i. Press "Submit"

2. Add your domain to your hosting account
You must point your domain to a subfolder or an existing site. To add a domain to any sub folders, please follow the steps below:

To setup or modify SPF, login Control Panel -> DNS -> chooose your domain and click edit Zone.

Creating MSAccess Connections

2. Click on on the Delete It button and proceed
