What UserID and Password should I enter when using Front Page?

Your FrontPage userid and password should be the same as your Hosting Account userid and password. Contact support if this does not work.

You can reset the password via Control Panel -> Security -> Site User manager

How do I publish to a subweb?

When publishing a SubWeb, if you publish directly to your account it will publish to the ROOT directory overwriting any existing files. The best way to publish a SubWeb is to publish the Parent Web and select the Include SubWebs option. This will ensure that the SubWeb publishes to the correct sub-folder. You may have to manually create the sub-folder first.

Frontpage form submit return 404 Not Found error

HTTP Error 404 Submitting Form w/Save Results Form Handler

SYMPTOMS

When you click the Submit button on a form, the following error message appears in the Web browser:

404 Not Found. The requested URL /nortbots/_derived/nortbots.htm was not found on this server.

NOTE: The error may be different depending on which type of server your Web resides.

CAUSE

When you set up a form on a disk-based web to send results to a file or e-mail address, FrontPage configures the form so that the Nortbots.htm page will be displayed in the Web browser. When you submit the form from the disk-based web, the following information appears in the Web browser:

FrontPage Run-Time Component Page. You have submitted a form or followed a link to a page that requires a Web server and the FrontPage Server Extensions to function properly.

This form or other FrontPage components will work correctly if you publish this Web to a Web server that has the FrontPage Server Extensions installed.

Click the <Back> arrow to return to the previous page.

When you publish the Web to a Web server, FrontPage does not publish Nortbots.htm. FrontPage also does not configure the form to work with the FrontPage Server Extensions.

NOTE: This behavior also occurs if you are using the Discussion Form Handler or the Registration Form Handler.

RESOLUTION

To work around this behavior use one of the following methods.

Method 1: Remove the Reference to Nortbots.htm

In FrontPage Explorer, open your Web on the server.

Double-click the page that contains the form. The page will open in FrontPage Editor.

Click inside the form area. NOTE: The dashed line indicates the boundary of the form.

Click the HTML tab at the bottom of the FrontPage Editor window. You will see HTML code similar to the following:

   <form method=\"POST\" name=\"myform\"
   onSubmit=\"location.href=\'_derived/nortbots.htm\';return false;\"
   action=\"--WEBBOT-SELF--\">

Remove the entire line of code that begins with the \"onSubmit\" statement. Your code will now look similar to the following:

   <form method=\"POST\" name=\"myform\"
   action=\"--WEBBOT-SELF--\">

On the File menu, click Save.

Method 2: Re-create the Form

In FrontPage Explorer, open your Web on the server.

Double-click the page that contains the form. The page will open in FrontPage Editor.

Select a form field and then press DELETE. Repeat this step until you have deleted all form fields.

Press DELETE to delete the form (indicated by the dashed line boundary).

On the Insert menu, point to Form Field, and click the form field option you want to add to your form. Repeat this step until you have recreated your form.

On the File menu, click Save.

I cannot publish with Front Page. Why is this?

Your Front Page extensions may not be turned on and/or your domain may not be enabled at the server.

Connecting to via FrontPage returns errors

Symptom: Connecting to via FrontPage returns errors. It does not even prompt for login ID & Password.

Workaround:

1st ) You must make sure your FrontPage extension is turned on via your control panel. If you've done that and still unable to connect, please try uninstall and reinstalling FrontPage extension.

2nd) If you are still unable to connect via FrontPage after the previous solution, this is most likely because you are being a proxy server. To work around this, you can do the following:

go to your Control panel -> Site Admin -> Set Basic Authentication and set your FrontPage url to basic authentication. This will resolve your problem.

Visitors receive a [Cannot run the FrontPage Server Extensions on this page] error message when they submit a feedback form

Site visitors receive an error message similar to the following when they try to submit a feedback form:

Cannot run the FrontPage Server Extensions on this page:
http://www.example.com/subfolder/feedback.htm

This problem occurs if you create a page in Microsoft Office FrontPage 2003 or Microsoft FrontPage 2002 by using the Feedback Form template and then you save the page to a subfolder instead of saving it to the root folder of the Web site. When a client submits the form, the FrontPage Save Results component tries to save the results to the wrong location. For example, if you saved the feedback page to a subfolder named Test, the Save Results component tries to save the results to the Test/_private folder, which does not exist.

To resolve this problem, follow these steps:
1. Open your Web in FrontPage.
2. In the folder list, expand the _private folder that is in the root of your Web site.
3. Locate the Feedback.txt file. If you cannot locate this file, follow these steps:
    a. On the File menu, click New, and then click Page or Web.
    The task pane opens.
    b. Under New from template, click Page Templates.
    c. On the General tab, click Normal Page, and then click OK.
    d. Switch to HTML view, and then delete all the HTML code.
    e. On the File menu, click Save.
    f. Locate and then double-click the _private folder that is in the root of your Web.
    g. In the Save as type box, click All Files (*.*).
    h. In the File name box, type Feedback.txt.
    i. Click Save.
4. Open the page that contains the feedback form.
5. Right-click the form, and then click Form Properties.
Note that the File name field shows that the results will be saved to the relative path of _private/Feedback.txt, which does not exist. (For example, if you saved the feedback page to a subfolder named Test in the root of your Web site, this path is /Test/_private/Feedback.txt.)
6. Click Browse.
7. Locate and then double-click the _private folder that is in the root of your Web.
8. Click the Feedback.txt file, and then click OK.
9. Save the form page.
